So long and thanks for all the cheese..
Hello Everyone..

This is likely one of the last posts that will be on LC/L2C. Running this fansite has had fun moments but at some point (long ago) turned from a project for fun to a daily chore lasting into the late hours of the night just doing daily maintenance. The Lineage world just changes too fast for me to keep up with! I foolishly let this site consume my life - I don't do anything fun any more and I've neglected my friends and family, which are the most important things to me. So, I have to go rescue myself.

The bills are paid until the end of the month and I've told my ISP to disconnect service per their policy. (By the way, this has NOTHING to do with money). To everyone who has sent me emails that I have not responded to, I just want to say that I've read them all and I seriously have emails from May 2002 that I was "going to get to". 499 sitting in my inbox that I hoped to one day reply to. My plan is to remove the database and site from the Internet on August 31, so if there is anything you see that you like, you better save it to your HD now :)

Maybe one day in the future, I'll see you all in Aden. Good luck everyone, please support the other fansites (it's alot of thankless work and some of you guys are complete assholes ;) and please remember to enjoy games, not live them. :)

For the curious, I posted the to-do list I was once working on (for LC). Hopefully one or more sites will now take all these ideas and implement them ^^

LC Wish List

I'd also like to thank amateras for translating for LC every single day for I don't even know how long, BigPope for all the ideas and information he has brought to us and all the reporters - you guys really did an awesome job and I was honored to post your articles on the site ^^

Combat Craft of the Dark Elf
Shhh… listen now; if you’re to survive as a Dark Elf, you must learn your weapon craft well. The Dark Elf is a master of assassination, with a basic dexterity and magical powers similar to Elves, and attack strength greater than many Knights. However, the Dark Elf defensive capabilities are only somewhat higher than a Mage, and they are incapable of wielding many commonly-known two-handed weapons, instead specializing mainly in an arsenal known only to their own kind.

  • Edoryu. A set of swords used with both hands. The nimble Dark Elf who wields the edoryu can execute lightning-quick attacks with the double-blades and has a chance to inflict a critical attack on their target.
  • Throwing Knife. A small and deadly dagger used with a special gauntlet for throwing. The dexterous Dark Elf who wields these knives does so at a closer range than their bow-wielding brethren.
  • Claw. A set of hooked gloves used with both hands. The skilled Dark Elf who wields these claws has a chance to inflict a critical attack on their target.

Both Elves and Dark Elves share the bow-crafting lore and often use crossbows when other weapons are unavailable. Dark Elves are more adept at the bow-skill than Knights, but are slower than the Elves of Einhasad.

Go now, in stealth and silence, young one; use this knowledge to prepare yourself, for perilous times are at hand for the Dark Elves.

Episode 1: Light and Shadow ushers in a new era of Lineage. The first of six new episodes covering the time of Dark Conquest introduces many new weapons and items, including a unique dual-weapon system for the Dark Elves.

STR 36 damage bonus
Lineage: The Fact (http://netcity7.web.hinet.net/UserData/actc/news/200308/20030808.html) recently posted an article about a mage who seems to have "broken" Lineage.

As many people already know, for each additional point in STR you can add, you get a damage bonus. (See STR explanation for a refresher).

A STR mage on the Taiwanese servers recently hit level 55. He has added all his points to STR, giving him a base of 25 (the maximum base). Throw in his Power Gloves (+2 STR), Amulet of Strength (+1 STR), Staff of Force (+3 STR), STR spell (+5 STR) and you have a total of 36 STR. (If he had an Ancient Giant Ring, he would have 37 STR, the theoretical maximum possible).

However, it seems he has stumbled across somewhere that the original Lineage programs never expected. When he did his damage tests, he noticed this pattern:

STR282930313233343536
Dmg+7+8+8+9+9+10+11+12+0

That's right, at STR 36, there is no damage bonus! Looks like the NC devs didn't expect 36 STR. Hopefully this little quirk will be fixed soon. Until then, I'm sure that he won't be equipping his STR amulet. :)

FieldsofLove Becomes 4th Royal On Dep To Make 50, First Prince

Wow, sometimes we think something will never happen. When it's just too hard. Those times call for great determination and a boatload of hope to go on. However my friends, sometimes dreams do come true, and on August 3, 2003 it did for one lucky prince by the name of FieldsOfLove. With 650+ hp and a host of +6-9 items FieldsOfLove is the first level 50 prince on the Depardieu server.

FieldsOfLove, or Fields as we call him is from Katy, Texas and has been 49 for almost a year. Hell I remember when me and him were both racing to 50. We at Lineage Compendium (maybe just me) would like to shower you with embarressment.

So don't blush, and get ready, you got another two years to Death Knight. Good luck, and remember, you too can level up, even if it takes you a year with 20+ deaths. Good luck Fields!

Exodus: A New Home
Among the Dark Elves, there was one wise and 'progressive' thinker. This lone Dark Elf urged his people to rid themselves of their hate and opposition to the creatures and races of the world. He proposed embracing radical change and taking the first steps towards a new, peaceful history. Not everyone accepted these ideas and the Elder Dark Elves decreed his words to be the mark of heresy. They banished the wise and outspoken Dark Elf.

Those who followed this Dark Elf in his exile left their hometown and, after fighting through unknown terrain and dangerous beasts, ended up in a remote land, far on the other side of the continent.

Episode 1: Light and Shadow ushers in a new era of Lineage. The first of six new episodes covering the time of Dark Conquest introduces a new land for the exiled Dark Elves.

Rise of the Dark Elves
In the beginning, the holy Elf race was created with the blessings of Einhasad, the goddess of creation. Elves were among the highest of all races because they had excellent looks and high intelligence, as well as a love of nature and they talked with the spirits. With time, these beings spread to the ends of the earth and lived in thriving societies. As time passed, they began to quarrel with one another.

There were also epic wars between Elves and Humans. The Elves that loved nature and wanted to live in harmony with nature were chased into the forest depths due to the destruction and cruelty of the ancient Humans. Other Elves did not differentiate between good and bad humans and insisted upon their own individuality, stopping at nothing in their ambitions to wage total war against mankind.

These Elves served the god of destruction, Gran Kain, and opposed their own creator, Einhasad. Over time, their bodies became cloaked in darkness, likened to the color of the god of destruction whom they served willingly and completely. The world came to call these fearful ones “Dark Elves” and they lived estranged from all others for countless years.

Until now.

Episode 1: Light and Shadow ushers in a new era of Lineage. The first of six new episodes covering the time of Dark Conquest introduces the new race of Dark Elves.

8/6 - Episode II, Part 1 live in Korea
Well, if you didn't hear yesterday, Episode II Part 1 is now on the live Korean servers. Lineage - Korea made a four-part post on what went in.

New Class: Dark Elf (http://bbs.lineage.co.kr/ncbbs/news_announce/bbsview.asp?article_id=1050&bbs_id=announce&page=1)

  1. Dark Elves start in the Cave of Silence.
  2. Dark Elf-only weapons are sold in the Cave of Silence.
  3. Dark Elves can use dark elf only weapons such as claws and double-swords.
  4. Dark Elves graphics are smoother than other classes. They may "feel" slower than other classes, but that's just the graphics.
  5. Cave of Silence has scarecrows so you can level up to 5. You can also use teleport NPCs to get to Singing Island and Hidden Valley.
  6. There are 3 levels of Dark Elf magic.
  7. There are 3 levels of quests at 15, 30, 45.
  8. Just like Elves, Dark Elves have their own Item Creation system (Shadow set, Silvery set, Dark Light set). Dark King set items are boss-level drops and not created. Each of the series have a Blade, a Claw and a Crossbow.
  9. Other new items are Shadow Cloak, Robe, Gloves, Headband, Boots - all safely enchanted to +6.

Phantasm Island (http://bbs.lineage.co.kr/ncbbs/news_announce/bbsview.asp?article_id=1051&bbs_id=announce&page=1)

  1. The entire island is a safety zone except for the bridges and the northern island. There is no XP loss on death here. However, XP gain is less than rest of Aden.
  2. You can use up to 5 elixirs (the stat limit of 25 still holds). You cannot drop or trade elixirs.
  3. New monsters: Guardian Armor, Ball Lightning, Diagolem, Killer Bee, Unicorn, Dreamweaver

New Tower of Insolence (http://bbs.lineage.co.kr/ncbbs/news_announce/bbsview.asp?article_id=1052&bbs_id=announce&page=1)

  1. There are now 50 floors in ToI, divided into 5 "stages". Each stage follows a pattern. There are five types of floors. Entrance, which has a few monsters. Progress, with a decent distribution of monsters. Ambush, where monsters are in great numbers and travel in packs, Boss which contains the all the monsters from the previous floors and a boss monster, as well as the opportunity to get a Talisman that allows you to teleport to the stage of your choice and Rest, where there are no monsters. Each stage follows the pattern of Entrance (1), Progress (2), Progress (3), Ambush (4), Progress (5), Rest (6), Progress (7), Ambush (8), Progress (9), Boss (10).
  2. The bosses are:
    • 10th floor: Zenith queen (lv 45) - drops Zenith Ring (wearer can't be poisoned)
    • 20th floor: Seer (lv 50) - Super Beholder
    • 30th floor: Vampire (lv 56) - uses bats to attack
    • 40th floor: Zombie Lord (lv 62) - giant Zombie boss
    • 50th floor: Lich (which is now lv 64)
  3. Each stage contains:
    • 1-10: Mutated Ramis (Level 32), Mutated Arachnevil Elder (33)

Phantasm Island map
Lineage Playforum did a summary (http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051004&kid=4684) of the different areas of Phantasm Island, as of the 8/3 Korean Test server.

As you can see there are 5 areas of Phantasm Island. All Spirit bosses drop: b-dai, n-zel, n-dai, haste pot, ghaste pot, pine wand, maple wand, ebony wand, rings, necklaces, blue pot, magic gem, b-res, res scroll, adena and braves.

Area A is a water-themed area. The Great Spirit of Water is escorted by Ice Man and Ice Golem. Ice Golem breaks swords, so make sure you bring whetstones here.

Area B is the fire-themed area. The Great Ball of Fire is accompanied by fire eggs and salamander. You will also will find fungus, be careful, these aren't elven dungeons fungus - in fact, you can lose 30HP/tick when poisoned, so bring twigs.

Area C is the earth-themed area. Here you'll find the Great Spirit of Earth as well as Crazy Rabbits and Guardian Armor, which is only weak to magical attacks. Knights can't really do well here, but mages that tame scorpions can hunt here.

Area D is the wind-themed area. You'll find the Great Spirit of Wind as well as Killer Bee and Ball Lightning. These things are believed to be bad at dropping adena and items, so it is considered a waste of potions to hunt. The Wind boss spawns near the ends of the zone and their tornado can hit for up to 400 HP.

Area E is a "neutral" area. At a rare spawn rate, you will find a Unicorn, which, if you cancel it, will yield Nightmare, a very strong boss. Nightmare drops Cloak of Invisibility and other very expensive items.

Throughout the island you'll have the opportunity to drop Dreamweaver, which drops the elixir. Dreamweaver can hit for 400HP in a single shot, but that kind of risk might be worth it, since an elixir could give you a permanent +1 to your base stat..

All servers:

  • Innkeepers will now offer players the option to directly enter an inn room via the text page once a key is purchased.

  • The spawn rate for monsters in Dragon Valley has been increased.
  • The NPC merchant Mellin in Silver Knight Town will now sell Teleport Scroll: Turtle Island.
  • Knights will now be ejected from Turtle Island to Silver Knight Town; all other classes will continue to be ejected to Talking Island.
  • A Pirate invading party has been added to Turtle Island; this will replace the current Black Knight party.
  • The Wizard’s Cap now has a maximum-level restriction of 23.
  • Spellbook (Destroy) has been added as a very rare drop from certain “boss” creatures; spell requirements, attributes, and effects will be unique to the LoA server.

8/4 - NCsoft Announces First Half Financial Results
SEOUL, South Korea, July 30, 2003—Today NCsoft Corporation, the world's largest developer and publisher of online computer games announced 2003 first half sales of KRW (Korean Won) 74 billion (US$61 million) and operating profit of KRW 29.8 billion (US$25 million). Recurring profit stood at KRW 18.7 billion (US$15 million). As for the second quarter, NCsoft recorded sales of KRW 36.6 billion (US$30 million), down two percent from the first-quarter sales. Its operating profit and recurring profit in the second quarter were KRW 11.7 billion (US$10 million) and 7 billion (US$6 million) respectively.

Despite the emergence of various free online games, NCsoft posted sales of KRW 74 billion thanks to continued increase in the number of people in Korea playing NCsoft's flagship product, Lineage, and expanded overseas sales. Profit from overseas royalties during the first half of 2003 jumped 42 percent to KRW 13.7 billion (US$11 million) from KRW 9.7 billion (US$7 million) in the same period last year.

In Taiwan, Lineage is expected to mark continued growth with the update of its twelfth episode Aden and the addition of a new server. In Japan, where broadband networks are gaining in popularity, Lineage is growing rapidly. Japan showed the largest growth for NCsoft's overseas markets as sales soared in the Internet cafes and with the update of new episode Aden.

The company lowered its annual sales expectation from KRW 180 billion (US$149 million) to KRW 157 billion (US$130 million) and operating profit expectation from KRW 83.8 billion (US$70 million) to KRW 62 billion (US$51 million) mainly due to delayed launching of its Shining Lore title and dwindling sales growth in China.

Chief Financial Officer Hong Heo said, "Operating expenses grew because of expenditure for this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, compensation expenses associated with stock options and newly purchased servers for the Lineage II open beta service. However, we expect a sharp increase in sales next year following stable revenues in the 2nd half of this year as we are planning an update of the original Lineage and the official launch of Lineage II in Korea followed by other territories."

It may come as a surprise to people that less than 8% of Korean players have a PK count of 1+. Or perhaps that less than 2% of players on the Korean servers have a PK count of 11+. In the latest GM post (https://bbs.lineage.co.kr/lineage/bbslito/list/gmnotify/threadview.asp?group=lineage&bbs=gmnotify&bid=48&lview=1&refbid=48&page=1) on the offical Korean Lineage website, they list the % of players with PK counts in a certain range. (Only level 15+ players were counted)

What's your PK count?

Have a talent for creation and the urge to reproduce one of your favorite monsters, places, or characters from the world of Lineage?

Submit your Lineage fan art! The artwork will be chosen based upon its relevant portrayal of the Lineage world and/or characters and adventures. The artist’s real or character name (depending upon their preference) will be displayed with the artwork on our site.

  2. The scanned image must be 150K in size or smaller – 800 x 600 resolution.
  3. The image must reflect something related to Lineage; for example, a player character, an action scene involving Lineage (such as a siege), a hunt within Lineage, or a Lineage monster.
  4. The image must not be sexually offensive, racially offensive, portray an image in bad taste (no gore or mutilations) or violate the Lineage User Agreement in any other way.

Korean Servers - hundred millionaires...
NC posted a chart (https://bbs.lineage.co.kr/lineage/bbslito/list/gmnotify/threadview.asp?group=lineage&bbs=gmnotify&bid=47) of the people with the most money on the Korean servers. There are actually 50 people with over 100M adena!

They gave a few examples of what you could do with 100M adena, here are a few to get an idea of how much money that is:

  • At 37a per Lesser Healing Potion (reds), you'd have enough money to pump potions for ~2.7M seconds continuosly or approximately 1 month!
  • You could buy about 3,333 Scroll of Enchant Armor, which is enough to statistically guarantee you 11 +8 elven armor (and a few left over +7s) if you made them all yourself.
  • You could buy about 1,333 Scroll of Enchant Weapon, which is enough to statistically guarantee you 16 +8 weapons with 2 +7s left over.

Here's the chart!
