summoned King Bugbear vs. summoned Ettin
Briel sent us this email about some research he has done on the HK servers. This goes along the lines of what NEO from Dep server (the only 52+ mage) was saying before he quit.

One of the mages in HK server has leveled to 52. He felt that the new
Ettin summons is weaker than the bugbear king summons. Therefore we did a
test to compare the power of ettins summon and bugbear king summon.

Bugbear King
HP: 330
MP: 30
Lv: 28 (in HK server)
Attack Speed: 68.57 time/minute
Hasted Attack Speed: 85.71 time/minute
Walking Speed: 90 step/minute
Hasted Walking Speed: 120 step/minute

Ettin
HP: 380
MP: 70
Lv: 33 (in HK server)
Attack Speed: 49.66 time/minute
Hasted Attack Speed: 62.09 time/minute
Walking Speed: 90 step/minute
Hasted Walking Speed: 120 step/minute

1st Match: bugbear king vs ettin, bugbear king attack first.
Winner: bugbear king (about 30% HP left)

2nd Match: bugbear king vs ettin, ettin king attack first.
Winner: bugbear king (about 10% HP left)

3rd Match: bugbear king(hasted) vs ettin(hasted), bugbear king attack
first.
Winner: bugbear king (about 45% HP left)

4th Match: bugbear king(hasted) vs ettin(hasted), ettin attack first.
Winner: bugbear king (about 5% HP left)

As a result, no matter who attack first, and hasted or not, bugbear king
summon is stronger than the ettin summon!

Lineage Player Stories: Death Match
Lineage Player Story: Those who have participated in Arena Deathmatch combat are encouraged to share the triumphs and setbacks in their quest for blood and glory.

Hear ye, hear ye! We are calling forth all citizens of Aden to share their stories of adventure and travel throughout the land! Every other week, we will post a topic in the News section. Players may then submit a story on that topic, based upon their in-game adventures. The selected story will be posted on our website a week following the topic’s posting.

Submissions for the stories should be sent via our Support tool. Visit our Support tool here and click on “Ask a Question.” Enter your story in the text box (or attach a text file) and be sure to select “Screenshots and Player Stories” in the “Department” window.

Please be sure to include your real name, a character name and server to which the story may be credited. All submissions become the property of NCsoft and may be used for advertising or promotional purposes.

NOTE: Please include a screenshot to go along with the story. The screenshot should relate to the story in some manner, or can be a picture of your main Lineage character.

This week's story topic – Survivor Stories: Arena Deathmatch

Deadline for submission – Thursday, October 3, 2002, by 9am Central US Time

XxGlitchxX

I got this email from TidalWave, SHA0LIN pledge member:

The Little brother of a member of us, XxGlitchedxX logged on his account to
tell us, his brother died.

The night before he had took his girlfriend home, when he got there and safely brought her home, he turned his car and into tractor of girlfriend's father (altho this part isnt very clear, but u can imagion telling that isnt easiest thing to do for his brother).

A lot of ppl miss XxGlitchxX, and took the time to make a line up at giran square in honour of him.

Ken server gives his condolences to his family and friends, may he rest in peace

Lineage Compendium would like to extend our condolences to his friends and family. :(

more on Blessed Weapons
If you haven't been asking gameplay questions to support, you should. I've been flinging a bunch at them, and I got this goodie:

Amer:Another question in your support system says "Blessed weapons do extra damage against undead and demons; this includes Baphomet". Is this extra damage equal to the extra damage that silver does to undead? Can you please specify what you mean by "demon"? Is a Succubus a demon? Is Giant Ant Queen a demon? Is Ifrit?

Alex@NC Support: The extra damage is not equal to the extra damage that silver does to undead; it is a smaller bonus than the silver/mithril bonus against undead. The following creatures are currently considered to be “demons”: Baphomet, Cerberus, Beleth, Demon, Living Armor, Death, Ghost (Red), Ghost (Blue), and Taurverus.

NCsoft Announces Publishing Deal with NetDevil
NCsoft has inked a deal with Colorado-based NetDevil (makers of Jumpgate) to publish a new massively multiplayer online combat car game for the PC called Wreckage. Currently in development at NetDevil, Wreckage is set in the post apocalyptic future of Earth, where the only good car is a heavily armed one. Players will be able to arm and upgrade their vehicles and partake in large scale auto wars. Wreckage is scheduled for a 2004-2005 launch date.

NCsoft Announces Publishing Deal with NetDevil

This sounds so cool - sounds a lot like AutoDuel which Lord British and Origin were involved with many many many years ago (1985). That game was sooo cool.

More on the coliseums
The questions we are wondering are (a) what will happen to the 45+ Death Match that we have grown to love and (b) how exactly will a level 5-15 Death Match work? In due time we will figure that out. But we did find some pictures on jude1004.com (http://lineage.jude1004.com/gminfo/guide/index.asp?cts_id=2317) to keep you interested while we wait for more info to be posted.

+10 Mail Breaker
Always impressed by +10 weapons, we were pretty excited to hear that ZzPzZ on Ken server has created a +10 Mail Breaker.

He said that he used a bdai on the +5 Mail Breaker and it only went to +6. He then just ndai'd it the rest of the way up until +10. Damn! This weapon is the true Dragon Slayer. ^^

A valuable lesson in why you shouldn't push your luck:

And then he couldn't find anyone to buy the +10 Mail Breaker:

That sucks.

Monster XP formula change
A few weeks ago we noted that the September 3 update changed all the monster levels *and* the experience formula. On one hand, AC was factored out of the AC equation. On the other hand, almost every monster got a 2 level bump. If you've noticed more or less experience for the past 3 weeks, then these are the details.

So how does this all balance out? Well, it turns out that all monsters that were level 24 or below ended up giving less experience, while all monsters that were level 25 or higher ended up giving more experience. We summarize on this page:

New Monster Levels and Experience

All our data was collected through lots of hunting, math and monster color information, but we stand behind it confidently. ^^ We have also updated our monster pages to reflect the new info.

We don't have any info on: Kurtz, Necromancer, Baltuzar, Merkyor, Baphomet, Beleth, Death Knight, Ice Queen, Giant Queen Ant or the Dragons. NC said they will update their website with the correct info, but they don't have that information on some of the bosses, so we ask for your help. If you 1:1 any of the above, send us your before level (like 47.1434%) and your after level. If you can't get that level of detail, just the monster color and your level (in screenshot form please) would be greatly appreciated... and don't worry about the dragons. It's not like we hunt them for XP ^^

European Connection News
We have received numerous complaints from customers whose connections travel through the telia.net network along the route to our network. Our network team has reviewed submitted trace routes and worked with Texas.net and cw.net to ensure that the connectivity issues in question are not happening within either of those two networks. The problem has been narrowed down to originating within the tele.dk network and the telia.net backbone network in Europe. Our network team has escalated this matter to our ISP to look into further.

We urge those that travel through either the telia.net or tele.dk networks and are having connectivity issues to contact your ISP and report the problem. Many ISPs in Europe have a direct working relationship with the telia.net network and can communicate with them to alert them of the problem.

Bomelith hits 51

Its been about 5 weeks since we heard of Bomelith the level 50 Wind Elf on Ken server. Today I finally got to interview him in person near Giran inn. It was late at night in the city Giran, people roamed around the bank area. A crowd was forming around a Demon, it was Bomelith. A elf name Laura went up to him and asked about his class. She was surprised he was an elf and yelled "Your an Elf??!!". I quickly moved up to him to remind him about our interview that i've been bothering him about all week. He finally accepted and we moved to a lesser crowded area, Giran Inn.

Bomelith is the usual hardcore level 50+ player. He hunts in DV, Fire Valley (I noticed he is now a Water Elf -- his Nature's Blessing spell allowed him to spend mainly ZERO pot money hunting) and 7th floor of the Ivory Tower. He says that that place had good exp until NC nerfed the exp. Bomelith devotes about 5-14 hours a day hunting or shall i say playing.

Bomelith's items are quite amazing, but typical for the lv 50+ player. He uses a +8 Yumi, +9 Rapier and a +8 Blessed Katana. If you wonder whats with all the swords, well he is a CON elf and added +1 to con for his stats. His AC isn't that bad -47 base with bow.

Despite his delevel on thurday, he managed to relevel and show us his flaming morph. Bomelith wants to thank Sabrine for keeping him in line and his pledge, The ElvenBloodOrder. Bomelith also has a request for NC; A better elven morph for 40+. The lv 16 Orc Scout doesn't cut it.

I just want to thank everyone who applied to be reporters for taking their time out to write a sample article. I sent out all the accept/save-you-for-later emails today and I'm going to be getting up the reporter section soon as well as the internal forums for the LC staff.

Also, sorry for the delay. It took me awhile to get to this, but finally I did. ;)

Everyone else can sit back and relax and find a nice steady stream of stuff to read when it's all ready!

Congrats to:
Dep Server

Important Update

Domain propogation issues independent of the recent server moves are currently affecting all North American Lineage gamers. To avoid problems connecting to the game servers over the next 48-72 hours, please modify your game shortcuts using the following instructions:

Windows Users

  1. Right-click on your Lineage shortcut and click on Properties.
  2. Remove the /us from your target line and replace it with the server IP address.

Ken Rauhel server IP address is 216.166.78.132

Depardieu server IP address is 216.166.78.131

  3. Click OK.
  4. Start Lineage using the shortcut.

If you play on multiple servers, you may use these instructions to swap IP addresses from your shortcuts, or you may wish to set up separate shortcuts for each server.

Macintosh Users

Open the Terminal application located in the Applications/Utilities folder

Run the client from the Terminal application by typing in the following:

For Ken Rauhel, type: /Applications/Lineage.app/Contents/MacOS/Lineage 216.166.78.132

For Depardieu, type: /Applications/Lineage.app/Contents/MacOS/Lineage 216.166.78.131

Troubleshooting Connections
We have received reports from players experiencing trouble connecting to the Lineage servers following our recent server move. If you are experiencing these issues (unable to connect to the Lineage servers), please follow the instructions detailed below. If you continue to experience connectivity issues, please contact Lineage Customer Support.

The first thing to check is that your Lineage shortcut on the desktop is set up correctly. Right-click on the Lineage shortcut and click on Properties. The Target line should read as follows:

"C:\Program Files\Lineage\Lineage.exe" /us

If your Target line does not read exactly as shown above, please update it accordingly. Try logging in again.

If the problem continues...

The problem that you are experiencing is likely caused indirectly as a result of our recent Lineage server move. It takes some ISPs longer than others to update DNS entries which in turn gets passed onto their customers. The DNS lookups cached in your system are probably not yet updated.

WINDOWS 2000 or XP users:

Note – you must be logged in with local admin privileges to make these changes.

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type "cmd" (without quotes) in the Run box.
  3. In the Command window that opens, type the following and press ENTER:
    ipconfig /flushdns
This will essentially purge all cached DNS lookups from your system, forcing your computer to re-query DNS for the new information. In other words, if your computer thinks that usmainupd1.lineagethebloodpledge.com is still at the old IP address, Windows can sometimes get into a state where it saves that information indefinitely so that it doesn’t have to look it up again. The problem is that if the information changes, Windows will continue to use the old values. Using the ipconfig /flushdns command will force Windows to forget about all those saved-up values, so that the next you try to launch the client it will actively resolve the update server (rather than relying on cached information).

WINDOWS 98 and ME users:

  1. Click Start -> Run
  2. Type "command" (without quotes) in the Run box.
  3. In the Command window that opens, type the following and press ENTER:
    ipconfig /flushdns
  4. See if Lineage will run now. If the problem remains, go back to your Command window and type the following lines (pressing ENTER after each):
    nslookup usmainupd1.lineagethebloodpledge.com
    nslookup usmainupd2.lineagethebloodpledge.com

Macintosh users:

  1. We are receiving reports of success using the following methods:

Restart your computer and rebuild your desktop by holding down the Command and Option keys at the same time while the computer reboots. Delete your Lineage preferences, and then run the game.

RSS Feeds
Last week, I mentioned that we had created an RSS-style news feed for Lineage Compendium, so you can view it using Trillian Pro.. There are actually all sorts of "News Feed" readers available for both Windows and MacOS which will let you view your favorite websites (like LC, Slashdot, Motley Fool, CNN, Blues News, Salon, Wired News, MacWeek, etc) on your desktop -- If you're like me, you visit about 20-30 "daily" websites every day, and you'd see the l33tness of having it all on one app.

Here are some cool freeware RSS Readers to try out:

Korean 52+ Players
Lineage Playforum (http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051003&kid=1404) reports that NC - Korea released statistics on how many players are 52+ on the Korean servers. (Korea has its own Dep and Ken). We translated the chart for your reading. ^^

Knights
Elves (Blue) & Mages (Green)

Playforum said that the Prince numbers were unavailable.

It's unknown how old this chart is, but NC provided this data on Playforum's request. (Will the NC-US do that for us? ^^) -- I would say around a month old. Playforum did have the following updates:

  • Poseidon, marked as level 67 on Gunter, is now 68.
  • Light, marked as 64 on Arain server, is now 65.
  • 0Hercules0, marked as 61 on Castoll server, is now 62.
  • DragonElf, marked as a level 57 mage on Einhasad server, is now 58.
  • ChunSooJungHwa, marked as 60 on Zillian server, is now 61.
  • Both 57s on Ishilotte server (Gaia and Kenshin) are now level 58.

They also noted that Hercules won the LWC competition that just ended in Korea. (Poseidon wasn't able to sign up in time, if you are curious to Poseidon's ranking).

It looks like our Dep server can hang with the big boys -- the last 7 servers approximately have US Dep's 52+ numbers. ^^

New Calculator
Lots of people always wonder "if I just spent all my time on one character, instead of 3 level 45 characters, what level would I be?" or say things like "levelling a character to 50 is like levelling it to 49 many times".

Well, to help answer these questions, I wrote a little tool that you could enter the level of all your characters and get a total %.

XP Combiner

BTW, the answers to the questions above are "level 48" and "1-49 3 times".

Game Server Move
A reminder: on Wednesday, September 18th, we will be relocating the US Lineage game servers to a new hosting location at Texas.Net. All US Lineage servers will be unavailable between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM (Noon) Central US time. The US Test Server will remain unavailable until approximately 3:00 PM.

The US servers will have new IP addresses following this move. As the new IP addresses will be patched to Lineage game clients once the servers are restarted it is important that users access Lineage using the Lineage desktop shortcut with /us following the program link. If you are using the PC desktop shortcut from a default installation of Lineage and have not modified the shortcut, or if you are using the Macintosh game client, your client will patch correctly. Additionally, the Lineage Test Server IP address will change to 216.166.78.130 and Test Server users should adjust their test clients accordingly on September 18th.

Light reaches 65
Checking in with the super high-level players of Korea, Lineage Playforum reports (http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051003&kid=1400) that Light has reached level 65 (Korean server).

Check out that AC! I wonder why he uses one Wind and one Water ring.

New Morphs
[update]: Looks like NC didn't mean to let us use those morphs.
These morphs were not intended to be implemented into the game at this time.
We have corrected this issue and players should no longer be able to morph into
these creatures. Take care.
Fun while it lasted. ^^

A recent Korean event created six new morphs and it appears someone forgot to take out the morphs for the US servers. Well, new morph excitement has swept both servers (how did people figure this out?) and I've been getting lots and lots of emails of people taking screenshots of themselves and friends in this morph, with instructions.

The new morphs are Yeti, Giant, Minotaur, Succubus, Black Knight and Death. To use them, you need to type in /morphwin to enter the text entry version of polymorph. Then you use a Scroll of Polymorph and at the prompt, type in one of: "yeti morph", "giant a morph", "minotaur i morph", "succubus morph", "black knight search" or "death morph".

The morphs are just for entertainment really -- they are no better than spartoi. Black Knight morph walks extremely fast (walks like a knight on braves) but hits very very slow. Death hits extremely slow, but has that cool floating movement. Succubus and Minotaur are nice, but I still would rather hunt with spartoi.

One curiosity is that Black Knight hits with range 2. No other morph can do this, not skeleton pike, not Neruga orc. I wonder if they can look at whatever Black Morph is configured and do the same thing to skeleton pike and Neruga so we finally can have the range bug fixed on the morphs.

This doesn't appear to be a bug, but we haven't heard any comment from NC.

Eva's Bounty
update: I am putting this at the top for quick access during the event and I'm going to continuously update it with all the screenshots people send in. Good luck to all!
I made a list with all the emails people have sent about drops and drops I have received that try to outline what will drop and who will drop it. It doesn't specify how often though. The general rule-of-thumb is that higher level monsters drop the better drops. Also, historically, the drops on a live event are about 6 times less than that of the test event, so some of the weakest monsters listed may never drop an item. Anyway, good luck whenever the event does start. :)

Eva's Bounty

BTW, I'm still missing drops like P-G and some of the amulets, so if you got a screenshot of something dropping those, please send it in so I can add it. All the drops on the Eva's Bounty page are verifiable by screenshot or personal experience. ^^

NCsoft Server Move
On Wednesday, September 18th, we will be relocating the US Lineage game and website servers to a new hosting location at Texas.net. We feel that this move will provide the best possible solution for our customers – giving them access to a diversified network that will, in many cases, improve the connectivity between customers and the Lineage servers.

While we complete this move, there will be a few instances of downtime or potential downtime detailed below:

  • Saturday, September 14th - 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Central US time. Customers may experience a brief outage while we begin moving backup equipment. We do not anticipate downtime, but there is a possibility.
  • Tuesday, September 17th – 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Central US time. The Lineage and City of Heroes websites, including message boards and support sites, will be unavailable while we move the web servers to the new location.
  • Wednesday, September 18th - 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (noon) Central US time. All US Lineage game servers will be unavailable while we move the servers to the new location.

Of special note: the US servers will have new IP addresses following this move. As the new IP addresses will be patched to Lineage game clients once the servers are restarted it is important that users access Lineage using the Lineage desktop shortcut with /us following the program link. If you are using the desktop shortcut from a default installation of Lineage and have not modified the shortcut, your client will patch correctly. Additionally, the Lineage Test Server IP address will change to 216.166.78.130 and Test Server users should adjust their test clients accordingly on September 18th. The test server will be down slightly longer than the production servers and is currently scheduled to be brought back up by 3:00 PM.

Finally, as this move will take place next week, it should be noted that Lineage customers may still experience connectivity issues during the previously announced Exodus maintenance period on Sunday, September 15th from 2:00 AM to 7:00 AM Central US time.

We apologize for any inconvenience these downtimes may cause and will be working to minimize any disruptions during the move process as much as we are able.

Trillian News Feed
If you are a Trillian Pro user who uses the News Plug-In, you can now have LC headlines updated automatically without having to refresh the page over and over again :)

In the News plugin option, under Preferences, goto Add Custom Feed:

(It uses the standard RDF format, so if you have an RDF compliant application, that would work too.)

Eversholt hits 50
Eversholt is the second prince on Ken to hit level 50. The tally for Ken is now, 3 Mages, 7 Knight, 2 Princes and 3 Elves. Congratulations Eversholt!

Eversholt is prince of SHAOLIN pledge. SHAOLIN is a pretty strong pledge -- in fact, until this afternoon, 5 of the 10 high scores in the Ken server Deathmatch were SHAOLIN members. (Recently DEMONIAN fell off, but we have faith in his return).

Eversholt is a STR prince who hunts DV, DVC and Ivory Tower 7F with -57 AC, a +8 Silver Long Sword and a +8 Blessed Katana. His character is rolled, which means it was created back in the summer of 2001, about. He gets lots of lag (lives in England) but is going to stick with his prince anyway.

He did mention that he hopes NC will reconsider the soft AC update. He felt that it doesn't do anything helpful.

He wanted to thank his entire pledge:

SHAOLIN pledge goes on MLC and DVC 6F pledge hunts as well as Fafurion hunts. They even held Kent Castle for about 1 month.

Congratulations Eversholt!

ISP Maintenance
The Exodus Data Center will be performing network configuration changes this Sunday, September 15th, from 2:00am to 7:00am Central US time. Lineage customers may experience some connectivity issues during this time as a result of these changes, including both intermittent latency and disconnections from the Lineage servers.

Just remember that you will make more during the event with an outage than without an event and no outage. :)

new (kinda) features
The level up calculator is back (and the rest are on their way). Also, if you haven't noticed the "Stats Explanation" section is back, where we collect all of our knowledge about STR, DEX, CON, WIS, INT and CHA in a nice convenient place. And finally, you may noticed the Quick News section on the right. That's for quick one-liners that don't need to be a whole news report, but just an announcement. We'll add an archive to that once there are enough entries to need one :)

Experience Formula revealed.
[updated]
Before the September 2 publish, our experience formula looked like this:

L = Level
A = AC
XP = L * L + 1
if monster's level was 9+, then +50 XP
if AC was less than or equal to 0, then +7-A
if AC was less than or equal to -2, then another +7-A
So Lycanthrope which was level 16, AC -4 would be:
XP = 16 * (16+1) = 272
+50 for being level 9+
+11 for being AC<=0
+11 for being AX<=-2
for a total of 329

Through a long board post where Ruben, Kaerid, and I were working with Melantus to figure out what is going on, we came to the conclusion that the XP formula is now simply:

XP = (L * L) + 1
This matches all the Lineage Playforum data perfectly. The XP reduction we are seeing is that the AC does not contribute to the XP any more. Initially, we had another set of formulas, but it turns out that NC has increased the level of many monsters, while not changing their strength, which led us on a wild goose chase. That's good news (more levels, same strength = more XP!). However, the removal of AC as a factor is kind of a bummer.

We have already updated the monster guides with the new formula. We are also waiting for NC to announce the level changes they have made, so once they publish that, we will update the monster's levels too.

I am working on a "New XP" summary page with all the old levels, new levels, old XP, new XP and % change so we can get the big picture of changes. Click on the link above to see it.

Monster Experience
Lineage Playforum (http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051003&kid=1376) has some reports that certain monsters have had their experience-upon-death changed. We reported this a few days ago, but here are more details.

Examples:

Shark (298 -> 257 XP)
Crabman (518 -> 257 XP)
Elekkadom (771 -> 785 XP)
Crustacean (824 -> 842 XP)
Turtle Dragon (681 -> 577 XP)

Obviously, these findings are on the Korean Live servers, so they may not apply to the US servers, but my personal research on the matter indicates that all those experience values are valid for the US servers as well. So, for the 5 monsters above, that is true.

Lineage Playforum also reported that a majority of the monsters located in Fire Valley have an *increase* in XP gained. So, the change isn't all less or all more, it's some mix of the two.

This should be treated as a seperate issue as the level differences some people are reporting.

Ruben tamed a few monsters and noted new levels:
King Bugbear (27 -> 30)
Undead Elmore General (23 -> 25)
Scorpion (24 -> 26)
Troglodyte (14 -> 15)

Melantus noted that this should be welcome news to players since higher level monsters = more experience in this thread: Incorrect Info on Monsters

However, despite the higher level of troglodyte (as an example), the experience is still lower. Before, at level 14, Troglodyte gave 269 XP. Now, at level 15, Troglodyte is giving 226 XP.

So, there are two issues here:

  1. Monster levels have changed.
  2. The experience formula has changed.

This shouldn't be considered an XP nerf. Some monsters give more experience and from what I've seen, the monsters aren't any harder than they were before. However, what exactly has changed? I sent an email to Melantus showing him the PF findings as well as things I've seen on our live servers - he is looking into it. (Thanks Mel) Hopefully we will have an answer soon.

9/7 DeathMatch action

Ken Server
DEMONIAN made his debut on the ranking list this afternoon, scoring 29272 and landing in the #3 slot, pushing Luckyboy off the list.

Dep Server
Congratulations go out to the Dep server team who successfully ended the Baphomets this evening for the first Dep victory! I was able to catch the last two rounds and there was some good strategies going on. Of note, one mage, Paocai, was fireballing large packs of monsters and luring them around the arena so the other knights had a chance to end monsters under less pressure. You might not get any points, but you get some credit here at LC ^^. Good teamwork!

The top 10:

  1. KnightRyDuZ: 35869
  2. SilverSlicer: 29068
  3. Bashaba: 28967
  4. Tuscani: 25288
  5. YaKuZaKHAN: 23431
  6. ElfMagi: 22684
  7. Banishing: 21808
  8. GgukJungE: 21777
  9. SunQian: 20497
  10. Intothetop: 19837

Congrats again Dep. (For those people who want to comment Dep is better/Ken is better stuff, cut it out. It's stupid. Thanks.)

Test Server
Some movement this evening -- KiON (36038) and KingSword (35379) moved into 6th and 7th place, pushing IIII and Ex off the list and Neverend (33671) also moved into 9th, dropping SM.

9/6 Evening Deathmatch results

Ken Server
Ken server seems to be getting the hang of it. Some new faces made their debut on the charts.

BaekDuSan (38507), FrozenSoul (37217) and 2G (28885) took the top three places this evening. No9 placed, strangely, at #9 with a score of 25654. I think that's quite a coincidence. If I was No9, I would start +9ing everything right now. 9 is obviously a lucky number ^^. Luckboy also entered the charts at #10 with a score of 25565.

Ummm.. I'm not sure how much they are going to water this down, since test drops better than live. But here are just the highlights in exactly 13 minutes of hunting Heine 1-3f.

Condensed Potions, Braves, Mana Pots, Wis Pots, n-zel, b-zel, c-zel, n-dai, c-dai, b-dai, Identify Scrolls, Crystal Plate Mail, Rings, Amulets, 2-Handed Sword, Katana, Staff of Mana, you name it, people are shouting it over global!

(Except Beholder - its still dropping junk)

I guess NC wants us to explore Heine Dungeon?

Ken beats the arena!

Ken Server
Mark your calendars: Sep 6, 2:15PM ET, Ken server successfully sent a team out to defeat the deathmatch. When I tuned it, at the end of the third round, instead of a whole ton of monsters left over and players running like crazy, there were a whole bunch of players, some cyan drops and a few leftover dead monsters. They were able to clear out everything before the boss round, and handily defeated 3 (thanks recamel ;) Baphomets like it was an overgrown milkcow.

Congratulations guys!

Everyone deserves credit for their teamwork, but here are also the final rankings:

  1. Facade 28039
  2. Monday 27001
  3. KimuRa 26771
  4. DUTCHPOWER 26154
  5. FyreBlade 25902
  6. Wodka 24699
  7. MarivSan 24690
  8. Sassie 24303
  9. BlackHawkx 24184
  10. Drannon 23129

Test Server
IIII placed today, getting 9th place for a score of 32005, pushing Ex down to #10 and Braveheart off the chart.

Afternoon Deathmatch
Dep Server
Today I attended my first Depardieu deathmatch. Only 3 level 52+ characters showed up: Tidus, LineageKHAN and Tuscani. There may have been more but they might not have been able to get in on time.

While we were waiting for the match to start, I was kind of annoyed at some behavior of the participants. We're supposed to send in our best, our gladiators, and it bothers me that some people don't even bother to prepare for the battle. Or even mess around doing useless things *during* the battle. This happened on Ken server too -- some people just COI'd and ran around not hitting a single monster, just collecting drops. Very uncool.

My appeal to my fellow citizens of Aden: Please, if you are unprepared or just going to be there to steal or play games, don't sign up. There are people who actually ready and willing - and you're taking their spot. This not only stops someone from playing, but it sucks for the people watching and it means more monsters for less participants - so you're risking their lives too. Okay, rant done.

Anyway, this time (on both servers) everyone got farther than before. Some people are finally working together. A good example of this was Tidus getting chased by around 15 yetis. He took them to the corner and was at the point where only 2 were hitting him at once. Then SKELET0RN (an elf) came by and finally LineageKHAN. I was sure that the three of them were going to survive until the end there. They were kicking some major ass.

ZRinZ (King Bugbears) and Tuscani (high level Dobermans) also seemed to get lots of use out of their pets. ZRinZ at one point was in a position where he could 1:1 everything, since the KBB were blocking all the other angles he could be hit from. I thought that was a great position for a mage.

COI is very useful in these deathmatches. After everyone was dead or teleported, JoKeR and 1o1 were running around in and out of COI trying to extend their stay as long as possible. Then Valakas came...

The image above shows JoKeR (in skeleton soldier morph) in his last minutes in the arena.

Valakas really cleaned house. A good thing about Valakas is that he engages and kills all the monsters around him. So if you can stay away from him, the mops left will keep him busy. I guess.

Test Server
In today's deathmatch, Zeus moved back to #6 with a score of 34743, moving DestinyX down one slot. SM made his debut with a score of 33136, putting him in #8, moving Ex and Braveheart down one notch and TheRock off the list.

I might make this a regular thing in its own section. Let me know if anyone who has applied for reporter (decisions this weekend) would like to concentrate on Death Match reporting. :)

MaChao hits 50 (and gets married)
Another person reaches lvl 50, and another interview from me. But just when I thought that all interviews would be the same, this odd character named MaChao turned up at a Giran siege in Baphomet morph.

I asked him if he had been interviewed yet, and when his answer was no I asked if he wanted me to do it. He told me that he would let me interview him after his wedding which was a mere two days away. And an interview in combination with a wedding proved to be a truly special and joyful event.

And so the big day came, and we started to gather inside Heine castle for the wedding preparations. Being the fan of weddings that I am, I helped decorate the place as we awaited the remaining guests. The guest list itself was quite impressive; Enhance and KnightRyDuZ, two lvl 52 knights, the old OverKill (someone that's played Lineage for a loooong time), Bam (another lvl 50 Knight that was also the acting Priest for this wedding) and many others.

Other than Bam being the Priest they had 502 and GodzKnight as bestmen, PrettyPink and XLadyKaylaX as bridesmaids and Parcae as flowergirl. Also note that MaChao And Dv8313 are together in real life, and that many of the people attending the wedding were sitting in the same room as Dv8313.

Now the Bride (Dv8313) and Groom (MaChao, duuh) stood together at the bottom of the aisle looking like someone had paired an oversized goat and a green hunchback together =P

But Bam, the Priest, decided that they shouldn't be morphed on this special day and had someone to cancel them. Here we have the two of them standing infront of the priest:

And here are the traditional fireworks and flashy light thingies that are used once the two have kissed:

Now the wedding itself was over, and after everyone had given their blessings to the newly wed and started to run around like mad in the castle (I'm not joking), we could begin the interview.

MaChao is a lvl 50 Con knight, and he said himself that it took about three months to reach that lvl from scratch. Funny thing is that he was never really thinking about reaching lvl 50, and only made the character for his wedding. He has (only) died four times at lvl 49, twice because of lag and the rest in a siege.

His reply when I asked him about his equipment left me a bit surprised however, or should I say shocked? He *had* -57 AC and a +7 Tsurugi, but proceeded to blow them up at his wedding just for the hell of it. His statement was that he'd have it all back in a month. Just shows how crazy those high lvl people can be eh? =)
(I would have been willing to accept any donations)

His stats are 609 HP and 49 MP without any belt on, but he does use both MP and HP belts otherwise.

When asked if he plans on going for lvl 52 soon, he replied that he would be concentrating on getting more money first. The stat of choice once he DOES lvl past 50 will be Str.

MaChao would like to thank the following:

(Jenjen is Dv8313, MaChao's girlfriend and Lineage Wife)

And everything else he summarized with this:

I can understand what he said, since dying at lvl 49 can't be fun.

To the question of who would win in a chess game between LordBritish and Antharas he replied LordBritish, since he'd turn Antharas into an Orc.

That's all for now, hope you've had an enjoyable reading.

Until next time, and CONGRATULATIONS MaChao, both on the lvl and for your lovely bride!

MintChip hits 50
Amongst the elves in Aden lies a young elf named MintChip. She's nice, strong, hardcore and is a level 50 elf on Ken. She hit level 50 on Sep. 3, after 2.5+ months of leveling up. She finally made it to lv 50 after 2 lag deaths and 8 siege deaths @ lv 49. 5 of them were delevels.

You can see Mint Loves to siege. She has a handy +9 yumi, -51 base ac, -62 with dex/ac bonus and -71 ac with Iron Skin and Blessed Armour. And of course shes a dex elf.

She wants to thank Moondancer, her princess and all her friends and pledgemates for keeping her awake.

I also want to mention she made her +9 yumi strictly from poping n-dais onto it. What gave her the idea to? She was really dissapointed due to the deaths that happened in lv 49.

MintChip also has something for NC "I dont understand the ac nerf, it doesn't balance the classes at all and lots of int/wis mages quit of it". She also lost many friends due to it.

new morphs
NC updated all the skeleton polymorphs and I did some timing tests to get an idea of what has changed.

Skeleton Axeman
This was the "sacrifice armor for speed" morph that was even highlighted in the Episode Zero comics. Well, no more. Skeleton is faster in every category (axeman may walk slightly faster when hasted, but it's within the margin of error, so I would just ignore it). Now, the only sacrifice armor for speed morph is Baphomet/Beleth morph which is largely inaccessible to the world.

Skeleton Archer
This morph has greatly improved. Now that you can wear your full armor set with it, it makes a nice bow morph. However, this bow morph is only for archers level 10-13, since at level 14 the orc scout morph is available and blows this one out of the water. Since most vets blow through levels 10-13 in a matter of hours, it's not really that useful unless you are new to Lineage.

Skeleton Soldier
We didn't have any info on skeleton soldier before, but it's now about the same as a skeleton with slower magic. You might say "but skeleton soldiers have range 2". Wrong, that's broken. I'm not sure there are any plans to fix it, but all "range 2" morphs can only hit 1 cell away.

Spartoi
Some of you may have noticed that everyone was in Spartoi morph for the Death Matches today. Well, they're the new bad boy in town. Previously, I would recommend werewolf to knights/princes, orc fighter/skeleton to mage and orc scout to archers. No more. I now recommend that all non-archers level 10-51 use spartoi morph. It's full AC, as fast or faster than skeleton/orc fighter/werewolf in walking, magic and hitting. ^^

Check out the Morph Guide to make your own conclusions.

Come and join us for a Lineage HoC (House of Commons) Chat, September 4 at 5pm Central US time! The chat will be taking place on Stratics IRC, in the channel #lineagehoc. Members of the US Lineage staff will be on hand, discussing Lineage and answering questions.

The moderated chat will be held at irc.stratics.com in #lineagehoc.

If you’ve never attended an IRC Chat before, just download an IRC client (such as mIRc) and connect to one of the following servers:

irc.stratics.com

stratics.frws.com
riot.tac.net
stratics.truefear.net
(or use this link #lineagehoc java applet -amer)

Once connected, stop by #lineagehoc.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Here are some questions that might inspire some questions of your own. Hopefully someone will ask them (I can't ask these, since I'll be a question taker - so you can go ahead and ask yourself ;) --
  • Can you give insight or opinion as to the disappearance of the Staff of Mana quest and consequently, no more Staffs of Mana? Are there any plans on its return in any form (quest/drop)?
  • Will the US every see the "Lineage World Championship" event as in Korea, since all the software seems to be already completed?
  • Is it possible to add a level of security to LinWeb so that other pledge members can see your information, but not *everyone*.
  • Why was seadancer removed and will it ever come back?
  • What do the scores in the Deathmatch High Scores mean?

Deathmatch High Scores
I added a new section which will have the high scores of the Deathmatch contest for all three servers. No one lived the first time on either Dep or Ken, so they are blank. :)

We'll try to keep this list as updated as possible, but it needs to be done manually, so don't get all nuts if it isn't up-to-the-second. ;)

Publish Announcement
The following changes will be published during the scheduled US server reset on Wednesday September 4 at 10:00am central time:
  • Fixed issues with the “Bless of Elm”, “Helm of Dexterity”, and “Helm of Constitution” incorrectly displaying AC.
  • Fixed an issue with the Helm of Magic (STR/DEX/HEAL) not showing it’s given spells when worn by a prince or princess.
  • Fixed an issue with teleportation from Hidden Valley to Talking Island.
  • Fixed a trade issue between players and some NPCs.
  • Fixed an issue with monster items dropping within walls.
  • Talass (who crafts the Bow of Sayha) is being temporarily disabled.
  • Terrain for Talking Island has been re-designed.
  • Bookmarks on Talking Island have been erased. Players will need to re-visit Talking Island to establish new bookmarks.
  • Experience received from killing another player has been reduced. There will be no experience gain from killing a player level 10 or below.
  • Arena Deathmatch
    • Players will be able to use the Giran Arena for battles against Aden’s monsters. The monster spawn will be controlled by the arena, and could increase in difficulty as time passes. There is a level 40 minimum for characters to participate and monsters will be appropriate for this level.
    • Admission fee is 1,000 adena.
    • Players will be able to purchase an entry ticket up to 5 minutes before the session starts. Players will be teleported outside of the arena 5 minutes after the last monster has spawned. Player self-teleportation will NOT be disabled during this, so do not leave the arena unless necessary as you will be unable to return.
    • Twice per day, the arena will be ready. The times are tentatively set to be 1pm and 10pm Central US time. This will allow for an evening event in both the US and Europe.
    • Spectator tickets will be sold to allow viewing the battles for 100 adena.
    • Resurrection is prohibited inside of the Arena. Potion usage is allowed inside of the Arena.
    • Hit point and mana points will not regenerate inside of the arena. Healing and mana potions are allowed. Mana potions used in the arena will cause mana to be regenerated at a normal rate instead of at the increased rate found outside the arena.
    • Players may use summoned or tamed monsters inside of the Arena.
    • Player versus player combat is allowed inside of the Arena.
    • Players will lose experience if killed by a monster when inside of the arena. However they will not lose experience if killed by another player in the Arena.
    • Players will gain experience and loot in the arena from the combating monsters.
    • Players can lose items upon death in the Arena.
    • The entire Arena area is set to a combat zone.
  • Level 15 Quests have been added:
    • NPC Ricky (Knight Quest) - Silver Knight Town
      • Ricky will give a Knights Hood when a Knight returns a Black Knight Pledge Document which can be obtained by killing a Black Knight party. The Knights Hood uses the helmet slot.
      • To upgrade this item to a Red Knights Hood, players must acquire an Old Trading Document from a Black Knight. They can be found just outside Silver Knight town usually near the training grounds. Once the Old Trading Document has been found, players must then seek out a Turtle Dragon Shell by killing Turtle Dragons. After finding both the Old Trading Document and the Turtle Dragon Shell, return it to the NPC Blacksmith Aanon in Silver Knight Town in order to receive a Red Knights Hood.

Note: Black Knight Pledge Document, Old Trading Document, and the Turtle Dragon Shell can be obtained more than once and cannot be dropped or traded. Players can, however, sell them to NPC merchants in each town in exchange for a small amount of adena.

    • NPC Zero (Prince Quest) – Kent
      • NPC Zero will task a Prince with finding and dispatching a Black Knight Search Party located in the vicinity of Kent Castle and to return to him with a Search Document as proof of their death. After returning the Search Document, a Red Cloak will be rewarded.
      • After obtaining the Red Cloak from Zero, he then suggests that you visit Gunter on Talking Island. Gunter asks you to head west towards the dungeon to kill a Stone Golem and return the Secret of Life to him. Once returning the Secret of Life you will be rewarded with a True Target spellbook.
    • NPC Jem (Mage Quest) - Talking Island
      • NPC Jem tasks you with recovering a Ghoul Nail and Ghoul Tooth from the dungeon to the northwest (Talking Island dungeon) and to return with them for a Cursed Spellbook.
      • Jem asks that you return a Skeleton Skull along with a Cursed Spellbook in order to receive a Book of Magical Powers.
    • NPC Oth (Elf Quest) - Fire Field Town
      • Oth will reward you with a Helm of Dexterity for returning a Duda-Mara Spellbook, Gandi Spellbook, Atuba Spellbook, and a Neruga Spellbook.

Troll's Belt found on Korean Test
Lineage Playforum (http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051004&kid=2316) reports that the Troll's Belt has been found on the Korean Test server - dropped by the Forgotten Island Troll. The troll belt is the first of three belts announced around the same time Episode 11 was released (the belts are not on the live servers yet, as far we know). The second belt is Ogre's belt, which we reported last week, and the third is Titan's Belt (no reports yet).

The Troll's Belt was described as "increasing capacity by 10%" however, the player who found it saw his weight gauge move from 100% to 82% with it worn, and also 37% to 33%. We're not sure what in the world is going on. Looks like it may be reducing the weight of the items by 10%, not the actual total capacity of the player. However, the math still doesn't work out.

Another curiosity is that the Troll's Belt cannot be worn by mages, but the [superior] Ogre's Belt can. Go figure.

Lineage Newsletter #9
The offical Lineage Newsletter #9 (http://www.lineage.co.kr/lineage/aden_world/newsletter9_full1.html) came out and it summarized all the new quests. Here they are for your reference. All of the quests are level 15+ and all of the ingredients cannot be dropped.

Prince Quest
Seek out Zero in Kent. He will aske you to retrieve the Black Knight Search Papers from a Black Knight. Once you give Zero the papers, he will give you a Red Cloak (AC -2, Prince only, weight 10, CHA +1). If you speak to him again, he will send you to Gunter in Talking Island. Gunter will ask you to get "Life's Secret" from a Golem. Hunting Golems in Talking Island Cave (1f) is what you need to do. Bring the paper back to Gunter and he will give you the True Target spellbook. You can learn it wherever you are.

Knight Quest
Seek out Ricky in Silver Knight's Town. He will ask you to find the Black Knight Contract. If you kill a Black Knight and get the contract, Ricky will exchange it for a Knight's Hood (AC -1, knight only, weight 30). Then he tells you to talk to the blacksmith. The blacksmith will ask you to find the Old Trade Document as well as a Turtle Dragon Skin. After you give those things to the blacksmith, he will give you the Red Knight's Hood (AC -2, Knight only, weight 20)

Elf Quest
Seek out Ose in Orc Town. He will tell you to go hunt Tribal Orcs for magic books. The Atuba, Gandi, Duda-Mara and Neruga each drop their own books. Collect all four, bring back to Ose. He will give you a choice of the Helm of Dexterity (AC -1, elf only, weight 13, DEX +1) or the Helm of Constitution (AC -1, elf only, weight 13, CON +1).

Mage Quest
Seek out Jem in Talking Island. She will tell you to go find ghouls and get teeth and fingernails. There are ghouls NW of town. Once you bring them back to her, she will give you a Cursed Scrollbook (AC -1, mage only, weight 20). If you speak to her again, she will tell you to go find a skeleton's skull. You can hunt in Talking Island cave for that. Once you get the skeleton's skull, she will give you Scrollbook (AC -2, mage only, weight 20, INT +1).

COI
Just saw this on slashdot. Apparently, someone from North Carolina is trying to patent a cloak of invisibility. This should be good news for people who can't find one in game. Now you can have one in real life!
