Halloween Event in Hong Kong (care of HKLineage)
Well, in Hong Kong servers, everyone found a maple wand (changes you into a random monster, you can control with Ring of Polymorph Control) in their storage as a Halloween Event. Kind of mystifies me why Hong Kong is having a Halloween Event and we are not. -.- Anyhow, here is some of the fun THEY got to have. :(

Lineage Time
Septonian on the message boards suggested we add a way for you to see what time it is on the servers, so I added the little clock on the left. I also added a description of how time in Lineage works: Lineage Time. Thanks for the great idea Septonian!

    dog level up calculator
    I added a dog level up calculator to the "Level Up Calculator" section. Not much data right now, but I'll be adding more tomorrow and you'll be able to estimate dog HP/MP too. ^^

    Looks like they implemented voting on the Korean test servers. Shown is some experiments where they asked players to vote on some game rules.

    This mage can end you.
    From Lineage Friend:

    This mage has a +9 SOF. After enchant weapon and STR spell, each hit is damage 40. He's thinking of selling it for 12-16M. (!)

    when your dobs go wild, you cant get them back.

    From Lineage Friend This guy (reporter) switched out from Lineage (Alt-Tab) to write some short reports. While he switched out, his high lvl dob (doesn't say what lvl) went hungry and left him. When he came back, he saw a dob with no owner. He thought "could this be my dob?" and it was. He went after the dob with 40 eye meats and res scrolls. After losing 300hp and using more than 20 eye meats and a few res scrolls he finally tamed the dob. However, when he looked at the dob's stats, he was back to level 6. So he killed his level 6 dob with c-l (i guess he used his ebony wand) and bought a new dob (higher level).

    mages rule! ^^

    From Lineage Playforum:

    These dragonslayings occurred on 9/28. The team wanted to keep it a secret, but now that NCSoft is changing the dragons, they are documenting their methods. This took LOTS of experimentation with strategy, lots of studying the dragons (by sacrificing their lives to it) and was not just a "hey, I have an idea" kill. We must congratulate these people on their hard work.

    The death of the dragons required using tamed Cyclops, Elders and Skeleton Marksmen. It took FIVE MINUTES to kill them with these mops. It appears (from the screenshots, article didn't specify) that each mage had tamed monsters at least 8 marksmen, 2 elders and 16 cyclops. Probably more.

    Teamwork is very important when fighting the dragons. If one member of the team fails the team, the whole team dies quickly. The team consisted of level 45 CON mages, some morphed. Likely everyone was loaded with pots and res scrolls:

    Antharas was easier than Fafurion. Fafurion is difficult because he was underwater, has an total screen attack and is in the dark. Its hard to see him, and very difficult to walk up to him and lead him to an area with many obstacles (to block his attacks). When returning to Antharas from Fafurion, they found it to be much easier.

    The team used obstacles (rocks, etc) to avoid Fafurions area attacks, this was important to avoid the bubbles.

    The used lots of long range attacks. Knights morphed into skeleton axeman were used as bait. They learned that Antharas' front feet only does 100-200 damage. So, they would send a knight in front of Antharas. They would help keep the knight alive (the knight himself would use clears and everyone was in a party) as he ran around and other mages (not on heal duty) used ebolt and other magic to hit the dragon.

    Antharas and Fafurion are being fixed by NCSoft so that you CANNOT kill him with only 8 people. NCSoft seems to believe killing the dragons require hundreds of players and are making him more difficult accordingly.

    It was worth it (I lightened up the images so you could see everything on the ground):

    some site updates
    Just a few brief infos about the site:
  • We're waiting for Leilo, who is a staff member of NC, to give us the go ahead on the accuracy of the official monster guide. We will update our guide then, so don't go by our monster guide right now.
  • We added a screenshot section. Only 2 screenshots, and not all the code is in. This will grow, but we wanted to start it off so you guys would be motivated to send screenshots in. ^^ I automatically blur all your stats, so if you don't feel like doing it yourself, it will be done for you.

    Mage Guide
    A very bored Wardy wrote us a mage guide for levelling a newbie mage up to 24. It's under the hunting guide section. A knight guide is in the works. If any of you princes or elves want to submit a Wardy(tm)-quality guide, just email it to us and we'll put it up. ^^

    Dragon Droppings ^^
    An interview on Lineage Playforum was posted between someone who was present during the slayings of both Antharas and Fafurion (yes, they have killed them both). I've already shown a pic of a crystal plate mail that Lostheaven found on the test server. Apparently, ANY time you kill one of those dragons, the crystal plate mail drops. Here are some more drops:
    The tsurugi (16/10, +2 to hit, weight 60, knight only), always drops from both dragons. It can sometimes can be blessed.
    Eva's Shield (AC -3, +20HP, hastes wearer, can be worn by all, weight 50) is not dropped, but can be made with the scales you find from Fafurion. We think that a single Fafurion kill will give you more scales than you need for a single shield because the person had both the shield and leftover scales.
    This is a +1 STR ammy, weight 5 - I don't think it can by zel'd, since it's not (normally Korean servers zel the heck out of it everything they find)
    This is a +1 INT ammy.
    A ressurection book. According to the person who had it, it is unofficially in the game. I think that means that it's a big surprise. ^^
    There are scales (blue - Fafurion, green - Antharas). As you can see they are left over AFTER making the shield. I think when the dragons die, there is a scale explosion and lots of people get lots of scales.

    contest #1
    We're Official! Contest
    Well, as a thank you to our loyal fans, we've decided that each month we will have a contest to give away a free month of Lineage! So, here is contest #1! ^^

    The "nice drop!" Screenshot Contest

    Yes, we are going to have a contest where all you need to do is send in a screenshot of a mop dropping you a rare item. At the end of the contest period, we will randomly pick one of the screenshots (using random number generator), post it, and give you a free month!

    Rules:

    1. You must be registered with our site to be eligible (by logging in).
    2. You must have a current, paid Lineage account as of November 8. (November 7 is the last day for submissions).
    3. The item needs to be worth something. Examples are: katana, zel scroll, dai scroll, rotc, ropc, 2-handed sword, hom:p, hom:c:, hom:h, coi, cop, t-shirt, gloves, any plate mail, any spellbook lvl 6+. Use your judgment. Sending in screenshots of garbage like daggers, candles, red pots, etc. will make us unhappy and will probably disqualify you from any contest on our site ever. ^^
    4. The screenshot needs to be taken as of Heine update. So, as of yesterday afternoon.
    5. Convert the screenshot to JPG if possible. That would be very kind of you on my poor server.
    6. Email the screenshot to compendium@greenmount.org
    7. Don't fake a screenshot, it's just not fun. We all can figure out how to use Photoshop, no need to prove you can, we believe you. If we find out, eternal banishment from our site! ^^
    8. Remember this is for fun, so if we don't get abused in some way I haven't thought of, then that's good for everyone!

    And if you send in more than one spellbook screenshot, I will be happy. But it doesn't affect your chances of winning. :(

    changes to site now that we have Heine
    I am going to use this news post to add things I find that are different from what we have posted and what is in Heine:
  • Iron boots are called Steel Long Boots and weigh 50, not 70. It is for *all* classes.
  • I switched materials for Wizard Clothing and Wizard Cap around. It is now correct. Also, the bonus is definitely +50MP ONLY.

    quickie on Ant Dungeon
    Some of you may be confused about Ant Dungeon. We'll have maps up soon, but just as an FYI, there are only two levels. 8 holes in the desert which lead to 8 separate maps, and a single second level with the Queen Ant.

    [update]: Ok here is kind of the way the maps a laid out. The first level consists of 8 maps that can be put into 3 different categories, (A,B,C) that I will explain now.

  • A. this category consists of 2 maps, both of these maps will lead you to a map in the B category maps.
  • B. this category consists of 3 maps, these maps connect to the outer world. 1 map connects to category A maps and 2 maps connects to category C maps.
  • C category is the one you want to find the holes to. These 3 maps all connect to a level B map and to the 2nd floor of the caves where the ant queen is. I hope this helps your understanding until we get the maps up.

    [update #2]: While we get our own maps made, take a look at this amazing map by Lineage Playforum. It shows how each map connects and why it is SO hard to explain. ^^.

    mop changes
    The following is a list of differences between the old mop guide and the new one. It could mean (a) old mop guide was wrong or (b) mops are changed. I think the old mop guide was pretty accurate, as it was almost identical to the korean fansites and the korean main site. I wanted to post this in a news before I updated the guide (since that takes longer). Also a bunch of differences between the new Heine mops in the US from Korea (which the current Heine mop stats are from). I will change those too. The saddest one is the change to seadancer. I had hoped this would be the new "mage only" mop, since its AC was -100! But it's -10. :( Oh well.

    Anyhow, here are the changes:

  • Brob is now Blob.
  • Shelob is now Arachnevil
  • Ungoliant is now Arachnevil Elder
  • Floating Eye has lost level (7->6), lost AC (5->10), lost HP (40->15), gained MP (30->40)
  • Ghoul gained HP (110->200)
  • Gremlin lost ALOT of HP (50->5)
  • Hobgoblin gained MP (13->30)
  • Imp gained HP (15->20) and found armor (AC 6 -> 0)
  • imp elder leveled up (6->7), found armor (AC 10->5), lost HP (50->40), lost MP (100->30)
  • kobold gained MP (15->45)
  • skeleton axeman lost MP (16->15)
  • slime lost armor (-10 to 10)
  • wolf levelled up (4 -> 6)
  • Basilisk lost MP (300 -> 30)
  • Bugbear gained HP (250->280)
  • Succubus lost HP (400->200) and lost MP (350->250)
  • Atuba orc lost level (16->14), lost HP (160->120), gained AC (-4 to -5)
  • Duda-Mara orc lost level (16->14), lost HP (110->100), lost MP (100->50)gained AC (-2 to -5)
  • Gandi orc lost HP (160->80)
  • Neruga orc lost level (18->16), gained HP (120->150), gained MP (5->15)
  • Orc Guard lost HP (250->150), gained MP (5->50), lost AC (-18 to -3)
  • Orc Scout lost level (16->13), gained MP (5->15)
  • Rova orc lost HP (100->50)

    dabman send us a screenshot of the boss monster of Hidden Valley: Cronos. (This, I assume is the knight's counterpart to Dark Mage). Now every class has a miniboss! (Cronos, Dark Mage, Dupelgenon). It may LOOK like an Ogre, but definitely not as strong (did 20HP damage on 6AC) Good call NC.

    Publish Update

    The publish of Episode IX: Kingdom of Eva and update of the revised Lineage US website are scheduled to be completed during the 10:00 AM CDT maintenance period on Tuesday, October 23rd. During that period, the game servers, Lineage website, and Lineage official message boards may be unavailable.

    To avoid an excessive patching period on Tuesday, we recommend downloading the version 1.70 game client at ftp://uslincon.ncinteractive.com/USLin170_10.exe. There will be an additional small file patch to this client following the Tuesday server publish.

    Additionally, please be aware that accessing non-North American servers, modifying the Lineage desktop shortcut, or running Lineage directly from the executable file in the Lineage directory may interfere with the patching process. If you have done any of the above, you will need to reset your Lineage desktop shortcut. To do so:

    1. Right-click on the Lineage desktop shortcut and choose "Properties"
    2. Select the shortcut tab and locate the "Target" line
    3. Your target line should read "C:\Program Files\Test Lineage\lineage.exe" /us
    4. Adjust the target line to match if necessary.
    5. Click 'OK' to close.

    Additional contents of the Episode IX update include:

  • Additional merchants will now buy orcish items such as shields, helms, etc.
  • Additional NPCs have been added to the areas of Singing Island and Hidden Valley, including a fortune teller NPC providing a brief game tour.
  • Spawn has been increased in the new player hunting areas and additional creatures have been added.
  • Treasure chests now spawn within the new player areas.

    Fortune Teller

    angelblu sent us a cool screenshot of another cool toy for US servers. There's a "fortune teller" in hidden valley (possible also on singing island?) which allows you to get a sneak peek at places newbies can't go to yet. Like underwater Heine. Wow!

    Dark Mage
    Earthsiege02 discovered a new mop on the US Test server last night in Singing Island. It's called a Dark Mage and looks exactly like Dupelgenon and Baltuzar. No idea on any specifics about this thing, as it is not on any monster guides I have seen (as of right now).

    Party Time!
    Hi, guys! As you all know by now, NCSoft is throwing lineage parties in Austin and Vegas. But since most of us can't attend those parties, perhaps we should pick a day and have a huuuuuuggeeee lineage party on Ken server. We'll get together somewhere, share some bananas and apples, and talk about anything, everything! We are open to party suggestions and locations, etc. Leave comments here or email us with your ideas.

    One free month!!

    Tuesday, October 23rd will mark the start of the official North American relaunch of Lineage: the Bloodpledge, and we hope you’ll join us! Over the next few months you’ll see Lineage appearing in North American game magazines, we’ll have special events both in-game and out, and more! We’ll be updating news as it develops, but first we want to give you details on some of the changes you’ll be seeing right away.

    As a thank you to current Lineage customers, we will be crediting all active, paid Lineage accounts with one month of free game-time. This free month will apply to all accounts on the North American servers with current billing that were created before October 23rd, 2001. These players have shown great enthusiasm for Lineage in recent months and have been indispensable in creating the Lineage community as it exists today.

    Lineage will begin appearing on newsstands in November – the PC Gamer holiday issue, the January issue of Computer Gaming World, and the January issue of Computer Games will all include Lineage on an enclosed CD. Issues should start appearing on local newsstands from mid-November through mid-December, so stop by and pick up a copy of one of these great magazines!

    We’re throwing a party or two! We’d like to invite everyone in the Austin, TX area to join us for the Lineage Launch Party on Thursday, October 25th at 8:00 PM CDT at the Coppertank Brewery (504 Trinity St. Austin, TX). Join us for CDs, t-shirts, food, drink, and more! Additionally, Richard “Lord British” Garriott and other NC Austin staff members will be in Las Vegas on October 29th and we’d love to meet any Lineage fans in the area! If you are in the Las Vegas area or planning to visit for Halloween, Lord British will host a dutch-treat dinner on October 29th. We’ll have t-shirts and CDs for the taking – if you’re interested, please drop an email RSVP to Leilo@ncaustin.com.

    Lord British is makes his return to the gaming world in a four-week Lineage: the Bloodpledge event. The Castle Heine (appearing in Episode Nine: Kingdom of Eva) will play a crucial role in this event and thus will not be made available on the US servers immediately following the game update on October 23rd. Details on how you can participate in this unique event will be appearing soon!

    remember your umbrella?
    Dein_Cathair got a pretty good answer from Melantus (NC - USA, Community Coordinator) on weather effects in Lineage. If you didn't already know, there ARE weather effects, they just don't happen ever.

    Dein_Cathair: ...When these boards first came up, within a few days, I had posted about Why were'nt the weather efects in some rotating repeating form. They are in place, and not being used.
    I also posted in that message that it would be easy to implement some sort of addition to the gm client, where it could be set on some sort of timer and rotate. We know Gm's can change the weather. Just make a small programmable randomizer in his client. And the ability for an on/off switch.
    Or even simpler! have the Gm's do it manually on a set vtime frame. You would give him a list of what time it is suspsed to rain, etc, and he would change it manually. I know how bored GM's are.. I seen them walking around dungeons before socializing with players. I bet they have time to change the weather if they were given a printed list of times tto change the weather.

    Melantus: We like that idea, and have talked about it in meetings. However it's not something we can do right now, due to all the other stuff going on. We will talk again about it internally to see if it is possible to do, once things quiet down. :)

    Dein_Cathair: Mel, could you do me a favor and list all the current posible effects?

    Melantus: There are three levels of fog, three levels of rain, three levels of snow. Each level is increasing amounts from small to heavy. The fog makes certain screens go white, which is why is it not used.

    Pretty cool, huh?

    News from linstage

    Pictured right is how some people in Korea spend their time on the test server. (Collecting ROTC)

    A Korean player created an account on the US server to see what it was like. Here are some observations he felt were worth nothing. I think they show how the game has been customized to deal with American players:

  • Our mops have coloring to indicate if they are aggressive or not. (New in 1.70 client)
  • We have a PK server, but also autoloot (he thought that was a strange combination)
  • You have to actually click on the person to trade with them (New in 1.70 client)
  • Near some guards, if you pass them the wrong way, you get teleported back.
  • USA doesn't have Heine yet. (But we will in less than 5 days!!)

    Also, linstage had a streaming video of a few Korean gangbangers that where on Korean TV for Lineage-related crimes (one even killed his little brother). >.

    your help please :-(
    In an act of great stupidity, I accidentally deleted the spell drop database. I recreated as much of it as I could from memory and emails. However, it still seems incomplete. So, if you are hunting and a spellbook drops, please take a screenshot and mail it in. Thanks for your help. :)

    US test server
    Just logged on to test server, after it was down for a few minutes for an update. I was wandering around hidden valley killing orcs when I found a treasure chest! I assume this means that the other updates mentioned in the news item about the Korean Test server are in now too. Here's a recap:
      A treasure chest on the US Test Server!
    1. In Hidden Valley and Singing Island, there are now "treasure chests". Treasure chests contain between 17 and 23 adena or a red pot.
    2. Magic damage minimum has been changed to 1. If the target has high MR, there still may be no damage.
    3. Tamed animals can now attack back.
    4. If you attack a "purple" character, you become a "purple" character.
    5. Guard (Ranger) will attack any chaotic characters on sight.
    6. Lots of rangers were added everywhere except orc town, elven forest, dragon valley.
    7. Characters below level 5 will not become chaotic, even if you PK. However, your PK count will still go up.

    US Test change
    A few days ago, they updated the US Test server and I forgot to mention that they've changed the minimum stats on mage. Now mage must have 12 CON, 12 WIS and 12 INT. I haven't updated the Getting Started guide yet because this is not the case on the live servers yet. Also, I can't seem to teleport out of Hidden Valley with one of my knights. :-( Is everyone else having this problem?

    Another level 50 character..
    See if you can guess what is cool about this picture.

    Give up? The prince has morphed into Baphomet. That implies he's what level? Yes. 50! A level 50 prince!

    tidbits
    Some interesting items from various sources.
  • There is a rumor in Korea about a mass teleport scroll coming soon. (game.korea.com)
  • The knight that reached level 54 which we mentioned below also has -59 AC *without* shield. (game.korea.com)
  • In Korea, lots of people are showing up on dvc 6f, especially con mages. Now that bugbears disappear on dismiss and drop everything they have, people are using their bugbears as storage, dismissing to empty them and summoning more. They load em up with 900 oranges and hunt for 1 - 1.5 hours at a time making about 300k per hour. A quote "use a +8 mana staff and -45ac, you should be fine." haha ^^ (game.korea.com)
  • You think the NC - USA is strict? In Korea, if you were involved with the duped adena in any way, your account was suspended. Some people were buying + items with the blessed adena were suspended. NC - Korea seems to view anyone who saw the blessed duped adena as having abused the system! So, if someone is cheating on our servers, and you value your account - stay away! (linstage.com)

    more on dragon scales
    Earth Water Fire Air
    Did some more translations of HKlineage. Apparently, dragon scales have THREE possibly uses!
    1. Can be used in the construction of dragon scale mail, and possibly a future dragon set.
    2. When used ON an armor or weapon, will enhance that particular items resistance (for armor) or damage (for weapons) to that element.
    3. When used on YOU, will enhance your resistance to that element!
    I assume you have the choice of using it on a weapon or on you because it has a probably negative side to it. (Increase Water decreases Fire) Thus, you would put it on a weapon if you wanted the flexibility to stop your fire strength to fight Fafurion.

    The elemental system has not been implemented yet, but it is clear that this is the direction Lineage is headed. Perhaps this is what happens in episode 12, since the 4th dragon should be released in episode 11.

    Dragon Scale Mail
    From HKLineage:
    Antharas
    (Earth)
    Fafurion
    (Water)
    Valakas
    (Fire)
    Lindvior
    (Air)
    So there are four dragon scale mails, four scales and four dragons. Just an FYI. More info on this later.

    will wonders never cease
    Someone in Korea hit level 54. He is now a STR 20, CON 18 knight.

    The knight bonus is 1 to each stat each level up, including level 50. The level 54 knight in Korea was a CON knight (STR 16, CON 18). So we assume he added +1 to STR each time (STR 20, CON 18). On one of the level ups he chose to add level 1 magic, so our guess is:

    level 50 add magic
    level 51-54 add +1 STR

    some Korean news from lineage friends
  • One of the Korean Servers is finally nearing its full capacity all the time. People are complaining that it takes up to 2 full minutes to retrieve your item from the dwarves sometimes.
  • On the Korean servers, magic gems got more expensive, +boots +gloves went down.
  • There was some kind of database error involving blessed adena where adena was duped. We think it's not a reproducible thing, but instead a one time error on NC's part.
  • There's also a bug with Wizard Set, which ImhoteP originally reported to us on the test servers. If you have less than 50 MP and are wearing the Wizard set when you log off, when you come back, you have 0 MP.

    Lineage Name Policy

    In response to customer concerns about abusive or vulgar names on the North American Lineage servers, effective Tuesday, October 16th, any new characters created with names deemed to be offensive or vulgar will be deleted without question. Additionally, existing accounts with offensive or vulgar named characters will be temporarily suspended. We will be offering a one-time amnesty period for those characters created prior to Tuesday, October 16th.

    If your account contains an offensive or vulgar named character, the account will be temporarily suspended on October 16th. Affected account owners will receive an email stating that the account has been suspended for this reason and offering a name change opportunity. To take advantage of this opportunity, respond to the email with three possible unique name choices. We will then check each of these names to see if they are available and will change your character name to the first available option. Please note: if all three character names are not available, we will rename the character with the first character name, appending a number to the end. Once the character has been renamed appropriately, the account suspension will be lifted and access to the game will be returned.

    Remember, this amnesty period applies only to those characters created prior to October 16th. Characters created with offensive or vulgar names after this date will be deleted, and the account may be appropriately penalized. Characters that undergo name changes during the amnesty period will not lose items or stats due to the change.

    The Lineage User Agreement specifically states that "You may not select as your Character Name the name of another person, or a name which violates any third party's trademark right, copyright, or other proprietary right, or which may mislead other Members to believe you to be an employee of NC Interactive, or which NC Interactive deems in its discretion to be vulgar or otherwise offensive. NC Interactive reserves the right to delete, or alter any vulgar or otherwise offensive Character Name."

    If you do not receive an email stating that your account has been suspended due to an inappropriate character name and you think that your character might still have an inappropriate name please email support@ncinteractive.com and place "Character name" in the subject line.

    Test Server Move

    The Lineage Test Server will be activated at the Austin server location this afternoon (Monday, October 15th) at approximately 3:00 PM CST. Downtime associated with this activation is expected to require approximately 2 hours. Once the Lineage Test Server is live, users connecting to the server will need to update the new IP address to their desktop shortcut. To do this:

    1. Right-click on the Lineage Test Server desktop shortcut and choose "Properties"
    2. Select the shortcut tab and locate the "Target" line
    3. Add the following IP address at the end of the target line: 64.92.129.159
    4. Your target line should now read "C:\Program Files\Test Lineage\lineage.exe" 64.92.129.159
    5. Click OK and run the Test Server shortcut to access the server.

    spells
    The text on the spells page was slightly unclear about what we wanted, so we changed it. Here it is:

    Some of the spellbooks have dates by them, such as 10/2. This means that that specific date is the last time we received a screenshot of that specific book drop from that specific monster. We feel that's the best way to keep the spellbook drop lists current. However, we need your help. If you get a spellbook drop, PLEASE email us.

    So, help us out and email us screenshots of "monster drops spellbook". Thanks!

    expanding my research to Taiwanese Lineage

    So, you already know that we scan the Korean fansites for news. To a limited degree, I'm going to start looking at the Taiwanese and Japanese Lineage sites too. I can't read either, but after this whole Taiwanese fansite thing, I discovered my coworker can!

    So, I found a cool toy: As part of a Valentine's Day event in Taiwan, they have listed (on their official site) a THIRD ring: Lover's Ring (I'm not sure if it is/would be called that in the USA). This ring allows you to teleport to "your lover" - I assume both you and "your lover" are to have this ring in order for it to work. This ring is not as universal as the ROTC, as the description on it says that it doesn't work everywhere. Still pretty neat idea for an event. :)

    Korean Test Server updates
    Korean Test server got new updates! Info care of linstage.com
    1. In the newbie areas (I assume this means Hidden Valley and Singing Island) there are now "treasure chests". Treasure chests contain between 17 and 23 adena or a red pot.
    2. Magic damage minimum has been changed to 1. If the target has high MR, there still may be no damage.
    3. Tamed animals can now attack back. (We're not too sure about the translation on this one.)
    4. Okay, bear with us on this one: "If you attack a boradoly, you now become one." When we clicked on boradoly, we got a picture of a purple teletubby. According to linstage, a boradoly is "a bastard that PKs you." My guess is that the purple teletubby is linstage's way of making fun of PKers. So, what I think they are saying is if you attack a "purple" character, you become a "purple" character. We should start calling "purple" characters barneys, just to inject some US culture into this. :)
    5. Guard(Ranger) will attack any chaotic characters on sight.
    6. Lots of rangers were added everywhere except orc town, elven forest, dragon valley.
    7. Characters below level 5 will not become chaotic, even if you PK. However, your PK count will still go up.

    people who steal bandwidth are dumb

    Sorry for the current look of the site. Lots of graphics and some pages are missing. But all the data is complete.

    At about 10:54PM on Oct 11, we started getting about 27 hits per minute to the AVI linspatz made of the Royal Rumble. That's about 1 hit every 2 seconds for a 2M file. This is the capacity of a T1. So, our site slowed down and eventually the web server gave up and crashed. The reason is because this site: http://members.tripodasia.com.tw/lvnd/main.htm has been referencing our site alot and referenced the movie DIRECTLY, instead of making a copy of it for their server. Thus, stealing our bandwidth. I can't understand or read Taiwanese (which I assume this site is) so if someone can, can you PLEASE tell them to stop it? If they continue, then you're going to start seeing a lot of "Server too busy" errors because I'm going to throttle the bandwidth ASAP.

    Anyway, sorry about the mess. In about 10 hours we should be back to normal, with a whole set of new scripts to block them.

    Thanks for your understanding. ^^

    1.70 Client Available - announcement by NCSoft (10/11)

    The full client version (1.70) of Lineage is now available on our download page at http://www.lineagethebloodpledge.com/download. This is the final client version for the release of Episode 9 (Kingdom of Eva), contains the redesigned Lineage interface, and it is fully compatible with the existing game. This game version will be included on the CDs shipped to existing Lineage customers – however, those players with high speed Internet connections may wish to download and begin enjoying this client now. Please note: the actual Episode 9 changes and expansion will not be active on servers until October 23rd.

    Additionally, we will be updating the external test server with fixes and changes for Episode 9 this afternoon. Test server characters will be restored from a recent backup copy.

    Important: Players who have previously accessed the North American test server will be unable to properly patch their client by connecting to test server to download the patch. These players will need to either download and install the new 1.70 client version, or patch from a fresh install of version 1.63 in order to properly update the game client. Please continue to maintain a separate copy of Lineage for connecting to the test server to avoid experiencing problems when attempting to play on the regular game servers.

    Wizard Set
    imhotep on the US test server found all the necessary materials for what we have been calling the Mage Set. By the time we caught up to him, he already zeled the wizard clothing. He mentioned that there was currently no bonus on the US Test Server. He suggested that it hadn't been implemented yet, which we expect will be fixed for the Heine release. ^^

    The only differences between what we reported and what we see here are the names: Magic Hat --> Wizard Cap and Mage Robes --> Wizard Clothing, so perhaps the actual name of the set should be "Wizard Set". Of course, the actual bonus is still up in the air too.

    rumored items, care of lalineage
    Some veterans may have seen these items mentioned before, but we thought we'd repost this information and add it to our weapons/armor/items database. Here are some items that have been rumored in the Lineage world as "coming one day."
    great sword
    14/12, two-handed, only knights can wear these
    there have been numerous rumors about this item being added, but it hasn't happened yet
    tsurugi
    16/8 and two-handed, only for knights
    much better than rapier for small monsters
    unicorn-horn
    12/12, two handed spear, elves and princes only
    always hit the target
    throwingstar
    this item is likely to come out with thief class. expected to use them like arrows
    rifle
    no idea on this item, probably will come out with the engineer class.
    Eva's T-shirt
    different from regular t-shirt, this t-shirt can lower your ac by 2. when this come out, regular t-shirt price will go down for sure
    wand of silence
    use this wand to stop others from talking. probably with some limitations
    bag/luggage
    expected to increase how much you can carry

    Mage Set

    We know that the magic hat and magic robes are going to be available in the upcoming update, but where? After looking around for awhile, we found that Moria, the alchemist in the red, circular building south of the Giran town center, makes them! The items for construction are on the Armor Sets page of the Items Guide. To make them, you need the Korean client. If anyone has the required items on the US test server, please make them and take a screenshot of the identified items and send 'em our way. :) If you don't have the Korean client, email me and I'll meet you on the test server and make them for you!

    alligators and crocodiles

    Latest trend in Korea is to tame crocodiles, they're better pets than Bugbears Kings (!)

    [There may have been some concern that the only difference between the level 30 crocodile and the level 16 alligator is color, based on the images in the Monster Guide. Well, those are zoomed out to fit each monster. In fact, the alligator could actually FIT inside a crocodile, so don't worry - you'll be able to tell the difference. Pictured is a non-zoomed scale representation of a crocodile (i added the knight in for scale, so the image was altered) and an alligator, and of course, the standard dead me. - amer]

    servers are not down

    The servers are not down, they merely have new IP addresses.

    Check this file: list-e-e.txt

    Should have these IPs:

    Depardieu Server
    64.92.129.131
    Ken Rauhel Server
    64.92.129.132

    [update]

    outlaw suggested that while you're in there, tinkering with your list-e-e.txt, make it look like this:
    4
    Depardieu Server
    64.92.129.131
    Ken Rauhel Server
    64.92.129.132
    ~~~ Test ~~~
    63.104.49.30
    ~~ Server ~~
    63.104.49.30
    That way you don't need two icons, you can just click on the server you need. Keep in mind that NCSoft does not approve of doing it this way, since you're using the test client on the real server, but you're doing that anyway cause you had problems in the first place, right?
    more undead bonus?
    support once told me that the undead bonus is always the same (that is, it is always x2 to undead) and that anything with silver or mithril in it is considered to the undead damage bonus. Well, it just occurred to me that this category should likely be expanded. Here's a list of weapons made using mithril - perhaps they give an undead bonus and we didn't know! We'll try to do some research on it.
  • battle axe
  • crossbow
  • elven bow
  • elven dagger
  • elven short sword
  • elven spear
  • fauchard
  • guisarme
  • mail breaker
  • mithril arrow
    a siege tip from Korea
    On game.korea.com, a Korean player had a tip of using a bec de corbin for sieges. Shown here is his +8 bec-de-corbin. That's a pretty good idea if you can sacrifice your shield for it - +8 on 11/11 damage with range 2 - the key is the range 2. No getting stuck behind anyone during a siege, just reach over your pledgemate and help him whack your enemy.
    Based on a good user suggestion, I am migrating all the maps to be in two sizes.
    The first size which I call "print size" are the maps sized to fit on a 8 1/2" by 11" sheet of paper at 300dpi with 0.25" margins on all sides. The second size, which I call "screen size" is sized to be 1024 x 768 pixels.
    Will the real Amer please stand up?
    The Heine NPC, trion, says:
    Once before -- I do not remember when exactly -- I tried to go to Aden. Then I lost my way and ended up in the Forest of Mirrors. I thought I would just die then and there because ferocious monsters were roaming everywhere. Thinking about it now, I believe surviving the ordeal was a miracle. But the scariest experience was meeting doepelganger[sic], a monster that looks exactly like me. I still have nightmares about it.
    So, I ventured out into the Forest of Mirrors searching for my doppelganger. Well, not only did I run into my doppelganger (pictured to the right after killing me), but I ran into *other peoples* doppelgangers. I ran into an elf, and even a skel morph of someone. I even at one point had three Amers on the screen! Imagine hunting with your friend and thinking "well, why is my friend running at me - OH NO, THATS NOT MY FRIEND!" A doppelganger probably does not have its own shape, it morphs into the first person it sees. I'm not sure what the stats are on a doppelganger, but I had wielded a trident and my doppel had a sword of some kind, so its possible that its not a spitting image of you.
    The really cool thing is that when you see a doppel, you can't be sure if its a doppel or the actual person, so you are tempted to run up to it and kill it. Well, if you do, the other person (who might be real) might think you are a doppel and run to you! So you might be killing each other and then find out you just PKed and thought you were attacking doppel! Such wondrous confusion!
    Fog of Sleeping
    Part 2 of a 6 part animation special!
    On the test server, here is fog of sleeping (Level 9 spell currently unavailable) and we were able to capture an animation of it. Looks like he totally missed (or its not working yet), since no one seems to be sleeping. You can also see parts of Antharas and Fafurion walking in and out of the area captured. Click on the image to view.
    Bloodpledge Letter
    Available on the test server is this item, the Bloodpledge letter. Basically it's a mass mail-paper that you can use to send mail to everyone in your pledge. Cool idea. ^^
    Crystal Plate Mail
    Here's an excerpt from lostheaven on the message boards about the background of this armor:
    This A.M. I killed serveral monsters, Werewolves near "a town". They drop me some items which I know I am not suppose to have, I would like to return them to a Gamemaster, or have them wiped, if your rules deem I can't keep them. Though I hope you allow me to keep a few items or at least SSs of them IDed to give to one of the fansites.
    On the US Test Server, we saw some new monsters: Bear and Salamander. We don't know anything about them except their appearance.
    Heine City Map
    Our Heine city map now has the entire city within the city boundaries as well as some of Heine castle. We plan on filling in the white spaces eventually, but for now we have labelled every house and all the stores (which are very unremarkable, no cool weapons like Giran had) so people who want pledgehouses can get a preview. By the way, these pledgehouses are so much cooler than Giran pledgehouses. :)
    Korean server news
    For some reason, selling n-dais are very popular now on the Korean servers. Is some new mop dropping them regularly? Is Orim's brother in Heine dungeon? We will see on October 23 when we get the release. :)
    Heine map
    I've been mapping Heine City. It's not complete yet, but I wanted to get something up for everyone to look at.
    Heine items information
  • Based on some conversations on the Korean Test Server, the b-"samurai long sword" below, which we thought was a tsurugi, is not something you should expect to see normally dropping from dopplegangers. It's not even a normal item, it's a prize from one of the events on the Korean test server. Hopefully if events come to the US, we can expect similar cool toys.
  • We also found the actual requirements for the Shield of Eva: 10 blue dragon scales, 1 tower shield, 100 mermaid scales. We're thinking Fafurion will drop 1 at a time because that shield is really cool.
    monster names
    Translating proper names from Korean to English is pretty much a wild guess. I was bored and decided to wander around Heine on the US test server and found out that some of our wild guesses were wrong! Here are corrections to the names:
  • We thought aste was the starfish, when in fact it is ast.
  • We thought vakuuk was the cockroach man, but it is bacook.
  • We couldn't even figure out what the giant electric eel was, but it is illecadume.
    new siege system
    On the US Test Server, sieges have changed. On the left is a "Suho Tap" and here is an excerpt of some text from an NPC:
    - Once the members of the attacking party get inside the outer wall, the 'Suho Tap' structure can be seen on the inner field. If the 'Suho Tap' is attacked, it slowly crumbles and collapses. After completely destroying the 'Tap' the castle can be taken if the head of the pledge breaks the glass box around the crown which is inside the 'Tap'.
    - Only the head of the pledge can attack and break the glass box around the crown. If the castle is taken from the pledge who had the crown, the 'Suho Tap' is restored. The other pledge members are expelled outside the castle and until the siege time is completed, a siege can be declared against the prince having the castle.
    Time to rewrite some siege strategies?
    XP calculation
    LondonBroil suggested I add the amount of experience each monster gives upon death, so I did. I used a formula I read on the message boards once. Basically it said that the experience is equal to the level * (level + 1), and then there is a 50 pt bonus if the mop is level 9+, a 8-AC bonus if the mop has an AC of 2 or below which is doubled if the mop has an AC of 0. If anyone knows differently, please let me know.
    Ant Dungeon - US Test Server
    Irwin was kind enough to send us a screenshot of the entrance of Ant Dungeon on the US test server. This is a shot he took immediately after he went through the sand whirpool. Notice the greeting party of ants. ^^ I think what is particularly cool was the little mound of sand that seems to be coming from the ceiling (where the sand trap is). Also, unlike the other dungeons where walls prevent you from walking a straight path, this one seems bound by crevices. Irwin will get back to us with more screenshots of his Ant Dungeon adventures. ^^
    magic pages
    Not sure if everyone has seen this or not, but we have been keeping the spells pages updated with dates of which mops drop which spells. This way, we can make sure that a spellbook drop isn't old news and can filter out comments like "Yeah, ghouls dropped n-dai." "Really?" "Well, they did back in April 2001." Please help us out - if a mop drops a spellbook, email us a screenshot where it says monster gives you spellbook: spell and we'll add it to the list. Thanks!
    US Siege News
  • XxRuffRydasxX, led by XXBeefyXx, took Orc Fortress on Ken server today.
  • I updated the Siege Reports page to keep an updated list of which pledge owns which castles. I'll probably enhance it soon to include features like "longest ownership" records and what not, but for now we'll just see how it goes.
    screenshot from game.korea.com and more
  • Another screenshot of the Korean siege on Heine. From what amateras read, after the monumental task of getting over two bridges and breaking down the heine door, they were greeting by hundreds of elfs and mages, lined up row after row after row. As soon as the door opened, hundreds of e-bolts and arrows gave the front lines to an unexpected surprise! I can't wait until the US sieges are that organized!
  • On another note, tomorrow (well, today, really) is October 1st, when Lineage Nation, an official fansite reopens with what we've all been waiting for, and the beginning of the relauch month of US Lineage. I hope everything goes well! ^^
  • Also, if you are on Ken server and you are a strong dex elf, please email spatz. He has taken the initiative to organize an Antharas hunt using a different strategy than "just hit him until he is dead", since that strategy doesn't work as we have seen.
    new comment system
    I created a new comments system from scratch, so you can state your opinions on news items. You just need to create a login, which I only do to discourage spammers. If you find a bug (I threw this together in 2 hours) PLEASE don't abuse it, just tell me - running this website is hard work, and destroying it would just make me stop and ruin it for everyone. Thanks! Enjoy the comments system!
